Coraopolis Shade Tree Commission

The Coraopolis Shade Tree Commission was established by the Borough Council in November 2014 with a mission to reintroduce trees to Coraopolis for beautification and to help manage storm water runoff. Currently, the 5 members maintain approximately 45 site-appropriate trees, 17 planters with seasonal flowers throughout the business district, and flower beds beneath the three welcome signs to our town.

Become a Tree TEnder

The Tree Tenders Course, offered by TreeVitalize Pittsburgh, "covers urban forestry practices, tree biology and health, proper planting, pruning, and maintenance, and instruction on how lead your community in organizing tree plantings and tree care events." The cost is $40 and includes materials, light food, and instruction. Each volunteer who completes the Tree Tenders Course qualifies Coraopolis for an additional 10 trees.

From planting in the Spring to watering throughout the year, the Shade Tree Commission needs your help, not just to maintain its current projects, but to EXPAND! Together, we can become a Tree City USA!

Keep an eye on the big picture

TreeVitalize provides an interactive map here that, when you zoom in to Coraopolis, shows where each of the shade trees we currently maintain are located. It also shows our long-range potential!
